As Elite Nationals are not far away, perhaps some of you may like a warm up?  We're
always open to suggestions for races.  This Saturday, we're looking to do an Omnium
with a little International Style ( you must compete and finish each event to move to the
next event ) .

Events as follows:

1 )   200 meters time trial flying start(15 minutes break from last rider)
2 )   10 km points race 6 sprints(15 minutes break)
3 )   1000 meter TT ( riders seeded from overall ranking after the points race )

In case of a tie , the best rider shall be determined by the lowest cumulative time in the
time trial events .
Points awarded to top five places for each event as follows 7-5-3-2-1 .
If any official would like to volunteer to help it will be greatly appreciated . Other
volunteers and a laptop would also be very helpful .  If you have any bib numbers from
Brian Piccolo Races , wear them please on left hip .  This is a hard event and timing
will be strict but you will have fun as this is basically stage racing on the track . The
final TT will make it epic as it will come down to mere split seconds .
USA cycling track rules will apply .   Points Race for each sprint 5-3-2-1 and 20 points
for any rider who laps the field .

The Team Sprints and the Individual Pursuit went off as planned on July 25.   There
was a pretty good turnout despite the short notice, and everyone came out to race
hard.  I don't have all the results handy, so I'm going to post what I have.  The First
event of the night was the Elite Team Sprint.  The early fastest time was put up by
Team Cocos with Humberto Pages, Clifton Cargil and Horace "Junior" McFarlane.
They were fast out of the gate, and maintained a great pace to finish with a time of
1:12.  The final team of the night was Team Nitroshot/ Get  Rid of My Bike with two
members of last years winning team, and some seriously interesting skinsuits.
Francisco Aleman came out of the gate well for a fast start, Mike Lifshotz rode second
wheel and Roger who's not usually known for his endurance killed it on the third lap
for a time of 1:09 for the Gold.  Roger and Mike teamed up with Mike Felling to race the
youngest Masters age group.  The trio won the Elite Championships for the past two
years, and they didn't disappoint with a time of 1:09 as well.  In the older Masters
group, the team of Larry DiSario, Mike Felling and Doug Ewing gained another State
Title for the team.
In the 4k pursuit, Grant Potter of Champion Porsche/ Racers Edge cycling team won
the event with a time of 4:56!  That is the fastest pursuit at Piccolo in a long time.
Sheldon Serrao also of Champion Porsche/ Racers Edge cycling team also rode a very
impressive time with a 5:05!
If anyone has photos, please send them to me, and I will post them here.

The Team Sprint State Championships that were rained out last weekend have been
moved to this Saturday, July 25.  Saturday will also be the makeup date for the State
4K Pursuit championships as well.  We're looking forward to seeing you out there!!

7-10-09
Just a reminder, this Saturday, July 11 there WILL be racing at the Brian Piccolo
Velodrome.  There will most likely be 3 different mass start events, suitable for all
levels of competition.

As with all races this year, if the right people show up, there may be prize money!!
Regardless, there will be some great competition!! RACES START AT 7:30pm

Next Saturday, July 18 is the State Championships for the TEAM SPRINT.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the Team Sprint, this is how it works:

"The Team Sprint / Olympic Sprint is a track cycling event. Despite its name it is not a
conventional cycling sprint event. Rather it is a three-man team time trial held over
three laps of a velodrome. It was first introduced into championship racing in 1996.

Like the team pursuit event, two teams race against each other, starting on opposite
sides of the track. At the end of the first lap, the leading rider in each team pulls up the
banking leaving the second rider to lead for the next lap; at the end of the second lap,
the second rider does the same, leaving the third rider to complete the last lap on his
own. The team with the fastest time is the winner. "

Last years champions Team NitroShot/ Get Rid of My Bike will be there hoping to
defend their title and beat the State Championship record that has so far eluded them.
Racing starts at 7:30pm.  Come ready to go FASSSTTTT!

The State Pursuit Championships that was rained out two weeks ago has been
re-scheduled for two weeks, Saturday, July, 25.  The pursuit is a Time Trial held over
4km (12 laps).  Racing starts at 7:30pm.

The Florida Masters State Championships scheduled for this weekend has been
postponed till October due to permit issues and scheduling conflict.  Apologies to the
people who have been training hard for this event, or have made special
arrangements to be down here.  While we're working on it, the track is definitely not
the top priority for a lot of people.

Last Saturday kicked off the 2009 State Championship series.  Once again Team
Cocos Stepped up to the plate putting $1000 on the line for the top 4 places, and
fielded a team that would surely take a good share of the money.

I must say this was the tightest and best night of match sprints I've seen at our track
in years.  The top 12 200m times moved on to the sprint rounds.  The slowest
qualifying time was 12.4, and the fastest was 17 year old Jay Phillip, fresh off some
solid international racing with an 11.3.  The top 12 riders were within 1 second!!

The sprints went on through the evening with multiple photo finishes that left the
crowded spectator section on the edge of their seats to see who won.

In the best of three final, Jay Phillip of the Trinidad National Team beat Roger
"Spiderman" Hernandez of NitroShot/ Get Rid of My Bike for the Gold medal

In the sudden death final for Bronze, Mike Lifshotz of NitroShot/ Get Rid of My Bike and
Cliffton Cargill Team Cocos battled it out.  After much studying of the film and photo
finish, the race was deemed a tie!  Talk about a close race!!  There will be a best two
of three re-ride held in June.  I'll post the date when I know it.

Humberto Pages of Team Cocos, beat Mike Felling from NitroShot/ Get Rid of My Bike
for fifth place.

There was a 10 lap scratch race held for the people who either didn't qualify for the
sprints, or were eliminated from the tournament.  The race was dominated by Team
Cocos with Ortelio Marin, Gustavo Rullo, and Mike Pouldon taking the top three!

Big thanks to Carlos, Brent and Ellie for the officiating.  Thank you Paul and Eddie for
supplying the photos for the photo finishes.

Photos of the event will be posted soon.

4-23-09  This is a big update, so sit down to read it.

Track Racing is currently going through a resurgence in South Florida.  I attribute it to
two big reasons.
1.  The Guys From Team Cocos.  They have been donating prize money to the Saturday
night races and coming out to race and support.  This has helped to bring out more
strong riders, increasing the level of competition for the riders and excitement for the
spectators.   In addition to the money, Cocos has one of the strongest race teams in
the state, and they come out for their share of the money every time.
2.  Brent Lucas - Brent goes out of his way every chance he gets to spread the word of
any track event from the State Championships to big training sessions.  I hear him
announcing it at all the Crits as well as on group rides.  Brent is extremely
enthusiastic about the track, and when he mentions it people can't help but get
excited.  While Brent is an accomplished track rider himself, he chooses to step aside
and officiate the races rather than race them himself.

Take a minute next time you see Cube, Keith or Brent, and thank them for the support
they give to not only track, but racing in Florida.

The State Championships are coming up on us fast.  The first State Championship
event will be the Match Sprints. Held on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30pm.
It will be raced tournament style with seeding decided by a 200 meter time trial.  If you
think you can sprint, come on out.  Confirmed for the event are last years champion
and runner up Mike Lifshotz and Roger Hernandez of the NitroShot/ Get Rid of My Bike
Race Team.

For the complete list of state championship events, please click this link or go to our
calendar page.

Last Saturday night was a hot night of competition with $700 on the line for 3 races.
The competition was fierce, and everyone raced like they really needed the money!!

The Keirin was won by Junior Sensation Kevin McGuire in a great sprint beating
former Masters World Champ Will Zeagers at the line.

The 6 lap scratch race, was fast from the start and stayed fast thanks to Mike Mouly,
of NitroShot/ Get Rid of My BIke.  The NitroShot must've been working.  The race was
won by Mike Lifshotz of NitroShot/ Get Rid of My Bike with an attack from 1 1/2 laps out.

The unknown distance was very exciting as usual.  There was constant attacking with
everyone wanting to see if they could be off the front when the elusive bell rang
indicating 1 lap to go.  That happened about 10 laps in with Mike Pouldon of team
Cocos taking a decisive victory.

In the 30 lap scratch race, Team Cocos maintained control the entire race, and closed
down every breakaway attempt.  The race was pretty steady until Mike Felling of
attacks with about 8 laps to go.  That sent the pace to an uproar.  Mike held the field
off for about 2 laps and was caught by Team Cocos.  The counter attack was launched
by Mike Lifshotz with 6 to go.  He was caught with 1 1/2 to go.  Todd Hancock of Team
Bike America, who had been extremely agressive all night countered the move and
opened a big gap.  Horace "Junior" McFarlane of Team Cocos, with an amazing burst
of speed was the only one who was able to catch and pass Todd by the end

The turnout was great, and the race was tons of fun for racers and spectators alike.
A big thanks to Team Cocos, Brent Lucas, Debbie DiSario for her announcing and
Larry for giving up his Keirin racing for the night to be our pacer.

The next event at the track will be the State Sprints

NEW BIKE OF THE MONTH

BIANCHI PISTA ALU

Click photo to enlarge

This frameset has just been made available to the public this week, but
the Nitro Shot/ Get Rid of My Bike Cycling team has been winning races
on it all year.
This frameset was introduced in time for the first "Fastest Mile" of the
year.  The result was a WIN!!  Most recently this frameset was used to
gain victory in the Team Sprint State Championships in both the Elite
and one of the Masters Categories.

This is an extremely fast and stable frameset with all the features of the well known
carbon fiber track frames but it's made of Aluminum.  The biggest benefit of this material
is that it's affordable to just about everyone.  The cost of this frameset is $750!! That's
about $2000 less than a carbon frame with all the same features and one big bonus, all
the history and heritage of BIANCHI!!

To see this frame up close, or you're interested in buying one, call or visit:
